Comic Book Club Four Year Anniversary Meeting: The Life & Times of Martha Washington, Transmet vols 3+4

Holy smokes, it’s the Ash Ave Comic Book Club’s fourth anniversary, and the beginning of our fifth year reading across the many genres of the comics medium.  I promise, it’s not an intentional tradition, but we’ll once again be tackling another comic from Frank Miller for our September 9 anniversary (last year we read and discussed Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s all time classic Batman Year One), this time he’s joined by comic legend Dave Gibbons (yes, of Watchman infamy) for the often overlooked epic The Life & Times of Martha Washington in the 21st Century.  We will continue our ongoing reading of Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson’s Transmetropolitan with a discussion of volumes 3 and 4 on Sunday, September 23.

For a complete list of what our reading groups have read in year four, check out the list below as well as information for our September and October discussion groups.

Our story begins in the squalid corridors of a maximum-security housing project, where a young girl will rise from the war-torn streets of Chicago to battle injustice in a world insane with corruption. Her fight will take her far, from the frontlines of the second American Civil War to the cold, unforgiving reaches of space. She will be called a hero, a traitor, and nearly everything in between, but all along the way, her courage, her integrity, and her unwavering commitment to that most valuable of rights-liberty-will inspire a movement that will never surrender.
Collecting remastered versions of every Martha Washington story, an extensive behind-the-scenes section, an introduction by Frank Miller, and a brand-new cover by Dave Gibbons!
