May is nearly here, and with it comes the high temps, and another month of the Ash Ave Comic Book Club! This month we will be reading and discussing Tom King, Gabriel Hernandez Walta, Michael Walsh, and Mike Del Mundo’s Eisner Award winning Marvel mini-series Vision, and we will be concluding our reading of writer Garth Ennis’ run of Hellblazer with The Rake at the Gates of Hell. Coming up in June is Hellboy, and in July we’ll kick off our next ongoing read with Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson’s Transmetropolitan.
Our meetings begin at 6 PM, and per usual we recommend attendees BYOB (be it beer, beverage, or BBQ). Listed below are our next two months of readings, and a photo and summary of May’s main title:
Sunday, May 6: The Vision
Sunday, May 20: Hellblazer vol 8
Sunday, June 3: Hellboy Omnibus: Seed of Destruction
One of the most celebrated comic books of the century, collected alongside an expansive array of special features! Vision wants to be human, and what’s more human than family? So he heads back to the beginning – to the laboratory where Ultron created him as a weapon. The place where he first rebelled against his destiny and imagined that he could be more – that he could be a man. There, he builds them. A wife, Virginia. Teenage twins, Viv and Vin. They look like him. They have his powers. They share his grandest ambition – or obsession? – the unrelenting need to be ordinary. Behold the Visions! Theirs is a story of togetherness and tragedy – one that will set the Android Avenger on course for a devastating confrontation with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Collecting VISION (2015) #1-12, plus the extras from VISION DIRECTOR’S CUT #1-6.
