What is Ash Avenue Comics?

Owner Drew Sullivan opened Ash Avenue Comics in 2003 to provide a laid-back, friendly, judgment-free place for long-time comic book enthusiasts and new readers to enjoy perennial favorites and discover new books to treasure. The mission of Ash Avenue Comics is to provide a destination shopping experience for a wide range of comics, from mainstream to small press and independent publications, with as large of a selection of comics and graphic novels as we can fit in our shop.

Do you sell anything besides comics?

Yes! We also offer toys, apparel, and posters.

Where are you located?

Ash Avenue Comics is located at 806 S. Ash Avenue, at the intersection of Ash & University, across the street from Whole Foods Market.

Our hours are:

Sun: 11 am – 5 pm
Mon: 11 am – 6 pm
Tues: 11 – 6 pm
Wed: 10 am – 7 pm
Thurs: 11 am – 7 pm
Fri: 11 am – 7 pm
Sat: 11 am – 6 pm

Oh, no! I’m reading this outside of your scheduled hours. Do you have some sort of online shopping option?

You can pre-order upcoming books solicited by publishers up to three months in advance through our online shop. Upon release, books will be taken down from our website and are available only at our storefront in Tempe. If there’s a book you’ve heard about but isn’t yet available for pre-order on our site, please be patient. Our harried intern is putting them up as fast as he can.

What’s your shipping policy for that online store?

Your comics will be mailed 1-3 business days after purchase via USPS First Class or USPS Priority Mail, depending on shipping weight. All of our comics ship bagged and boarded. International orders, if available to your region, will ship via First Class International Parcel Service. Orders of $100 or more are eligible for free shipping within the United States.

Hey! My order was cancelled! Why did you cancel my order, you jerks?

Number one, we are very sorry we had to cancel your order. Reasons your order might have been cancelled include but are not limited to:

  • Our intern blew it and oversold an item for which we can no longer place orders.
  • The book you ordered turned out to be an incentive variant (i.e. our shop can only order one such variant for every 100 copies of the regular cover that we order), but it wasn’t clear to us based on the product solicitations we receive from our distributors. Or we just missed it. If you place an order for a book you know to be a 1:50 variant that you see on our site for $4.99, that order will be cancelled, because we can’t afford to sell rare variant covers at cover price for titles we would never otherwise order 50 copies of.
  • A book reached its street date, but we ran out of copies at the shop before our intern was able to pull it down because he got sick or his dog died or whatever. And yes, he is the only person who knows how to do it.
What’s your return policy for online purchases?

All sales are final. Exceptions will only be made for items that are damaged or lost during shipping; in such cases, once we have verified the loss or damage to the item, a refund will be issued.

Can you help me send my books to the CGC to be graded and slabbed?

Not at this time, but we are exploring this as a service to offer in the future. Stay tuned!

Ring, ring! Hello, I found this old comic in my childhood dresser when I went to see my mom last weekend. Is it worth anything?

Maybe? The value of a comic depends on its condition, and we are unable to make that kind of determination over the phone. Even if the comic looks like it just came off the rack, other factors such as demand will influence its worth. If you believe you have a valuable comic, set up an appointment with our buyer here.

I just pre-ordered a comic from your site. How long will it take for my comic to get to me after it goes on-sale?

If you order a single issue, or multiple issues released the same week, your item will usually ship within 24 hours of the date of release. Because we charge shipping on a per-order rather than per-issue basis, if you place an order for multiple issues releasing on different dates, your order will ship only after all the issues have been released. For example, if you order a book that goes on sale on January 3 and a book that goes on sale on January 17, your order will ship on January 17. If it’s a priority for you to get your books the week of release, please place separate orders for titles shipping on different dates. Pre-order books are tagged with their week of release; click on the “Shipping XX-XX-20XX” tag on each product entry to organize your multiple book orders by release date so we can ship them to you as quickly as possible.

When is payment due on a pre-order item?

Payment for pre-order items are due at checkout when the order is placed.

I pre-ordered an item from your website, but now I need to cancel it for one reason or another. How do I cancel, and will I receive a refund?

We can cancel your pre-order and send you a refund anytime before the final order cut-off date. Customer-initiated refunds prior to shipment of the order will be subject to a re-stocking fee of $0.30 + 3% of the total order. E-mail admin@ashavecomics.com with your order number and cancellation request, and we will issue your refund within 1 business day.
