Here’s a shot from our first meetup back in September of last year:
Hey, it’s the one year anniversary of the Ash Ave Comic Book Club’s reading group! It’s hard to believe that it was a year ago that we promoted our first meetup to discuss Paul Pope’s Battling Boy, not sure what to expect or if we could sustain a monthly meeting. Looking back a year later, not only have we sustained a monthly group, we also held a second meetup for people to discuss Grant Morrison’s legendary DC/Vertigo series The Invisibles over six months. The reading group has become a great meeting place for fans of comics to come together and discuss or debate the titles selected, and to experiment by reading titles we’ve never read before, stepping out of our comfort zones and habits. For those who may have missed out on the first year of the reading group, it’s never too late to attend, and for those hearing about it for the first time we’ve put together a list of what we’ve read over the first year.

For our anniversary meeting, a reading group attendee has selected the Eisner award winning Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky series Sex Criminals from Image Comics. We will be discussing volumes 1+2 at the shop on Sunday, September 6th at 6 PM, as usual BYOB or any snacks you would like to share. Briefly, Sex Criminals is about a librarian and an actor who sleep together, and can stop time during sex. They commit crimes and hi-jinks ensue. Both volumes of Sex Criminals are currently in stock at the shop, descriptions for each volume are at the bottom of this post. See you in the shop!
