Join writer/artist Russ Kazmierczak (Amazing Arizona Comics) at the shop this Wednesday, May 18th, sketching in honor of Eisner award winning artist/writer Darwyn Cooke, who passed away last week after a battle with cancer.  Cooke was know for his work on Richard Stark’s Parker, DC: The New Frontier, The Spirit, Before Watchmen: The Minutemen, Catwoman: Selina’s Big Score, and a seemingly endless number of covers and pin up art.  Russ will be in the shop from noon to 4 PM, and all tips from sketches and art will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

From the event page:

“Darwyn Cooke is one of my favorite comic book artists and graphic designers, and he passed away early Saturday morning from cancer. My beautiful lady Randi has battled cancer, as well, so, since I can draw, I’ll be sketching superheroes, caricatures, or whatever the heck else you want this Wednesday at Ash Avenue Comics, and I’ll donate the tips I collect to the American Cancer Society.

If you can’t make it to Ash between noon and 4 p.m. but would still like a sketch, private message me (Speed Cameron), and let’s figure something out. Please share this event with anyone you think might want a sketch, too! They make great gifts! Any artists that want to join in, drop me a line.

Simply put, Darwyn Cooke drew the heroes we love, and anyone that faces a foe like cancer is a hero, too. Thanks, Ash Avenue Comics & Books, for helping me honor them!”
