Comic Book Club July Meetings: Supermutant Magic Academy + Saga of the Swamp Thing vol 3

Our mid and late summer reading selections are here!  Kicking off in July is Jillian Tamaki’s graphic novel Supermutant Magic Academy on Sunday, July 2nd, and we continue our long term discussion of Saga of the Swamp Thing with volume 3 on Sunday, July 16th. Both meetings will be held at the shop at our usual meeting time of 6 PM, and all meetings are BYOB.  We highly, highly encourage you to preorder a given reading up to two weeks before the discussion date, and a reminder that we offer 15% off a given month’s title in the shop.

Jillian Tamaki is best known for co-creating the award-winning young adult graphic novels Skim and This One Summer, moody and atmospheric bestsellers. SuperMutant Magic Academy, which Jillian has been serializing online for the past four years, deftly plays superhero and high school Hollywood tropes against what adolescence is really like: the SuperMutant Magic Academy is a prep-school for mutants and witches but their paranormal abilities take a back seat to everyday teen concerns.

Comic Book Club June Meetings: Ghost World + Saga of the Swamp Thing vol 2

We’re back with another month of discussion groups, albeit a little different than our usual routine.  On Sunday June 4th we will be discussing Daniel Clowes’ Ghost World collection and then viewing the Terry Zwigoff’s 2001 motion picture adaptation of the same name.  Unlike our usual meetups it will not be held at the shop, rather a private residence.  If you are planning to attend and have not hear from the shop yet, drop me a line at drew@ashavecomics.com

 

 

On Sunday June 18th, we will continue our reading of Alan Moore, Steve Bissette, and John Totleben’s saga of swamp horror with Swamp Thing vol 2, we will be meeting at the shop at our usual time of 6 PM.
